LA MARQUE, TEXAS (October 5, 2017) – La Marque Mayor Bobby Hocking is spearheading a text-to-donate fundraiser benefiting Galveston County non-profit, Lighthouse Charity Team with hopes of raising $50,000 before and during La Marque Bayou Fest.
During Hurricane Harvey, Lighthouse Charity Team (LCT) answered the call for help not just in La Marque, but across the County and all over Houston. Mayor Hocking is leading the charge to replenish funds that were depleted by this devastating natural disaster. La Marque Bayou Fest entertainers Keven Fowler and Mark Chesnutt have been supporting Lighthouse Charity Team for years, both having recently participated in benefit concerts.
To participate, text TEAM to 27722 for a $25 donation or CHARITY to 27722 for a $10 donation. The campaign opened today, Thursday, October 5, 2017, and will be pushed at La Marque Bayou Fest.
“We are doing this fundraiser so Lighthouse Charity Team not only recovers from the work they did during Hurricane Harvey, but also be able to prepare for the next storm. As President of the Galveston County Mayor's and Councilmember's Association, I traveled the entire county after Hurricane Harvey. I witnessed the best of humanity, as neighbors were helping friends and strangers alike. One of the consistent fixtures in every city, including La Marque, was LCT feeding first responders and citizens. It was more than just hot meals. It was a much-needed touch of love. We’re expecting a huge crowd at La Marque Bayou Fest 2017. It is a perfect opportunity bless to this homegrown non-profit organization."
Lighthouse Charity Team’s Hurricane Harvey Response:
“We appreciate La Marque Bayou Fest putting on this fundraiser,” said Scott Gordon, Lighthouse Charity Team President. “This text-to-donate program will help us ensure we have funds to react when the next disaster happens. We all know it’s not if - IT IS WHEN! Please know, your donations stay right here in Galveston County and will help us fund continued support of our local community.”
LCT’s mission is “People Helping People” and their platform is “Cooking for a Cause”. They are planning to partner with local churches and provide 20,000 Thanksgiving meals to those in need across Galveston County.
