impact

Volunteers needed: La Marque Clean City Commission will go door to door conducting a Hurricane Harvey Damage Impact Survey? this Saturday, September 16th, from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

LA MARQUE, TEXAS (September 15, 2017) – La Marque Clean City Commission, members of La Marque City Council, city staff, Galveston County CERT and volunteers will go door to door conducting a Hurricane Harvey Damage Impact Survey this Saturday, September 16th, from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. The goal is a comprehensive assessment of damages caused by Hurricane Harvey and to identify needs of the citizens of La Marque.

The study will identify:

  • What happened and how the storm affected individuals in our community
  • How residential, business and infrastructure property has been affected
  • Which areas were hardest hit
  • Which situations must be given response priority
  • What types of assistance are needed including local, state, federal or long-term

“Accurate and timely damage reporting is crucial to successfully requesting and receiving federal assistance in the form of either low-interest loans or grants to help La Marque’s residents, businesses and infrastructure recover from a disaster,” said La Marque Clean City Commission Chairman Joe Compian. “The recovery process begins with the identification of damages at the local level and the expeditious reporting of those damages within the emergency management channels,”

Data collected from individuals and businesses will be provided to Charlene Warren, La Marque Emergency Management Coordinator, and then funneled to appropriate channels to bring aid to the city. The teams will identify residents who need help but may not have internet or know how to access services or register for FEMA benefits. Distribution of relief information and debris cleanup schedules is also planned.

“On behalf of the La Marque Clean City Commission, we are excited to assist our city government and neighbors in beginning the road to recovery and, as always, to keep La Marque a clean and beautiful city,” Compian said.

Sixty volunteers are needed on Saturday to expedite this process. Teams will be divided by Council District. To participate, meet at La Marque City Hall, 1111 Bayou Road in La Marque, Texas 77568 at 9:00 a.m. to receive Damage Survey Forms and neighborhood assignments. Lunch will be provided.
