[ARCHIVED] FEMA Assistance Deadlines and Information

Assistance for Business Owners

The deadline to file for Disaster Assistance is Oct. 24. FEMA will no longer be accepting applications for disaster assistance after this date. Individuals can register on line at www.disasterassistance.gov.

Lynda Yezzi represents the FEMA External Affairs Private Sector Office, which provides information to small and medium businesses following disasters to help get them back into business. She visited the La Marque Economic Development Corporation and shared past issues of the “eBriefs” that FEMA has been producing for local businesses in Texas. These eBriefs contain compilations of the information that is being pushed out daily. The publications are being developed in English, Spanish, Chinese and Vietnamese. Several eBriefs will be added to the city website at harvey.cityoflamarque.org.

Yezzi also shared a fact sheet called “Assistance for Business Owners After a Disaster,” which is included in this message.

IMPORTANT DEADLINES

1.       The deadline to file for Disaster Assistance is Oct. 24. FEMA will no longer be accepting applications for disaster assistance after this date. Individuals who are not signed up for Disaster Assistance will not be eligible for the various programs associated with Harvey disaster relief, including short- and long-term housing, low-interest loans, etc. Individuals can register on line at www.disasterassistance.gov.

2.       Individuals who missed work (and those still out of work) due to Harvey are eligible for unemployment assistance through the State of Texas Disaster Unemployment Assistance program. The Texas Workforce Commission (TWC) has extended the application deadline for unemployment assistance to Oct. 31. This extension allows survivors in all 39 counties declared for Hurricane Harvey to apply for disaster unemployment assistance if they have not yet done so. To apply, call 800-939-6631 (TTY 800-735-2989) or go to the Texas Workforce Commission’s website at http://www.twc.state.tx.us/jobseekers/disaster-unemployment-assistance.
