BigAss Crawfish Bash Foundation Chief Executive Officer Quentin Severin, Chief Operating Officer Travis LeDoux and Chief Administrative Officer Mark Crowder presented Mayor Hocking with official Guinness Book of World Records certificate.
Leaders from the BigAss Crawfish Bash Foundation (BCBF) presented La Marque Mayor Bobby Hocking with the official Guinness Book of World Records certificate for the most crawfish prepared in eight hours on November 10 in La Marque. BCBF earned the world record on April 1, 2017, at Gulf Greyhound Park in La Marque, Texas. The official record is 26,346.45 kg, or 58,083.98 pounds of crawfish.
According to Quentin Severin, BCBF Chief Executive Officer, foundation leaders decided to present Mayor Hocking with the official certificate so the world would forever remember that this event happened in La Marque.
“We appreciate the support from the City of La Marque and Mayor Hocking,” said Severin. “The world’s largest crawfish cook-off happened right here and we want to remind people of that as we plan for the 2018 event.”
In 2017, there were 84 competitors, with Best of Gulf Coast prize going to 'Put Some South in Yo' Mouth' team, and Best of Bay going to Cabo Bar & Grill team. The 2018 event is planned for Saturday, March 24, 2018, at Gulf Greyhound Park Simulcast and Event Center, 1000 FM 2004, La Marque, TX 77568.
According to Severin, next year’s event will include all-you-can-eat crawfish, a crawfish cook-off competition with at least 80 cook-off teams, vendor booths, Kid Zone, sponsor area, live music, Veteran VIP Tent, and food multiple area restaurants.
“We expect 20,000 attendees for the 2018 event, Severin said. “We have big plans in the works. This will be epic!”
