Paul Bernard has worked at La Marque's Waste Water Treatment Plant since April 2016. Little did we know that he is also a talented artist! Mr. Bernard dedicated a painting to Mayor Hocking at the September 10, 2018, City Council Meeting.
"We have a couple of presentations tonight," said La Marque Mayor Bobby Hocking. "The first one is an art presentation from Mr. Paul Bernard, who is actually one of our Public Services workers. He is an artist. Since he was eight years old he's been painting with no professional instruction. He just paints what he sees in his heart, his sprit and his mind."
Mr. Bernard then presented the painting to Mayor Hocking, La Marque City Council and the council attendees:
"On behalf of my fellow coworkers who work so hard to serve the citizens of La Marque and to my supervisor, Chaise Cary, who works diligently to maintain balance and order for the public and his employees, I would like to show our appreciation to the Mayor for his hard work and leadership. I would like to donate this 48x16 mural to him."
Upon the unveiling Mayor Hocking said:
"It's got public safety, public works and all the functions of the city. He put me on top of the logo and even gave me a hat!"
Bernard said:
"I do a lot of themes for kids and I can draw just about anything. I am attending the Fall Art Walk on 6th Street September 22. I'll have my art work there if you'd like to come see it."
The mural will be on tour at several city buildings so citizens may enjoy it. For the month of September, it will adorn Council Chambers. In October, it will be moved to City Hall.
