The latest issues of Galveston County Health District (GCHD) monthly newsletters, Pulse of the District and The Coastal Wave, are now available.

This month, the health district celebrates National Public Health Week. We’re often met with surprise when people realize the variety and depth of services provided by the health district. We’re taking advantage of NPHW – observed April 1-7 – to highlight the services we provide each and every day in our effort to protect and promote the optimal health and well-being of Galveston County. Learn more in the March newsletter and be sure to follow us on social media to learn more about the services we provide. Galveston County racked up 2.5 million points in the IT’S TIME TEXAS Community Challenge, which ended March 3. Texas City led the way in Galveston County with 1.75 million points and also finished second statewide in its category. Several Galveston County communities finished in the top 10 in their categories. Check out the newsletter to see how your community performed. Thanks to everyone who participated!

We’re also observing National Infant Immunization Week, April 27-May 4, to help raise awareness about the benefits of immunizations to improve the health of children 2 years and younger. Check out the HEAL Cooking Corner for a quick Szechuan chicken stir-fry recipe and our Motivation Tips to help get you moving. The Galveston County Animal Resource Center (ARC) will host low-cost vaccine clinics on April 18 and 20. Both clinics are open to residents of any city and includes vaccines, pet microchipping, flea control, heartworm testing and treatment and county registration.  To learn more about costs, visitwww.gchd.org/ARC

Also available is the latest issue of The Coastal Wave, the Coastal Health & Wellness (CHW) monthly newsletter.

April marks National Autism Awareness Month and April 2 is World Autism Day. Autism affects an estimated 1 in 59 children in the United States today. Early intervention affords the best opportunity to support healthy development. Get to know CHW Dental Director Dr. Hanna Lindskog and Medical Director Dr. Cynthia Ripsin in the March Employee Spotlight. Both joined CHW in late 2018 and share their hopes for dental and medical care at CHW. March also marked National Dentist’s Day, National Doctor’s Day and Dental Assistant’s Recognition Month. A BIG thank you goes out to our dedicated CHW staff!
