La Marque Economic Development Launches Emergency Business Retention Grants in Response to COVID-19

The La Marque Economic Development Corporation Board of Directors approved a Business Retention Program on Thursday, April 2, 2020, designed to provide grants to qualified La Marque businesses that have been negatively impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic.

"Operating a small business is tough enough under normal circumstances," said LMEDC Executive Director Alex Getty. "The fact is, there just aren’t that many entrepreneurs in the world. We are working to support our business owners here in La Marque. The La Marque Economic Development Corporation Board, along with City Council and city leadership, wanted to take quick action to be able to help our small businesses the best we can in these uncertain times."

Under Section 501.101 of the Texas Local Government Code, the Program provides expenditures to qualified applicants whose business maintains a physical business address within the city limits of La Marque. The company cannot be a home-based business, must generate sales tax revenues that benefit the City of La Marque and must have 50 or fewer employees.

Qualified applicants will be eligible for grants paying up to two months’ salaries, rent, utilities, and other normal operating expenses up to a maximum of$25,000. The total funding for the Program is capped at $250,000.

Applications are due to the EDC Director by noon on Tuesday, April 7, 2020.

Please submit the application, along with all supporting documentation, via email to EDCgrants@LMEDC.com or by fax to 832-447-7668. Be sure to complete and submit the included Conflict of Interest, Vendor Information Sheet and W-9 forms. For questions, call 409-938-9258.
