A reminder from the La Marque Fire Department and the Office of the Fire Marshal that fireworks are illegal in La Marque, Texas.
A message from your La Marque Fire Marshal:
According to section 29.3 of the city ordinances of La Marque, the discharge of fireworks within our city limits is prohibited. A citation or ticket can be issued for a fine of up to $2,000. More importantly, fireworks burn at extremely high temperatures and can cause significant fire damage.
According to the National Fire Protection Association, fireworks started an estimated 19,500 fires in 2018, including 1,900 structure fires, 500 vehicle fires, and 17,100 outside and other fires. These fires caused five deaths, 46 civilian injuries, and $105 million in direct property damage and these are just the incidents reported.
This is extremely important in our community due to the layout of the subdivisions and the proximity of the houses. Not to mention the stress it causes our pets and citizens with PTSD.
Please be considerate this holiday season. Have a safe and Happy New Year.
