La Marque, Texas (December 15, 2016) – Over the next six months, La Marque Economic Development Corporation will work with Texas A&M’s Texas Coastal Watershed Program (TCWP) to execute the three-phase revitalization planning project. The $25,500 project is designed to provide a clear vision for La Marque Downtown’s urban renewal. A series of studies, community surveys and public workshops will result in a Final Downtown Revitalization Plan, which will then be executed by the La Marque Economic Development Corporation and the City of La Marque.
Downtown revitalization efforts will focus on Laurel Street, from Bayou Road to Yupon Drive, and 1st Street, from Bayou Road to Highway 3.
According to the Scope of Work, vibrant, and well maintained downtowns can serve as an indicator of public investment and the local government’s commitment to improving quality of life. The City of La Marque has a vision of a vibrant corridor in their historic downtown. Drawing from the design and urban streetscape of historic neighborhoods, this effort will be driven by the principles of place making, walkability and accessibility. This project will also help create an attractive destination for La Marque residents and guests. These efforts will help refocus development toward the City’s urban core. The planning process will involve a high degree of participation from local businesses and residents to capture community goals and develop support for the project. The Revitalization Plan will include analysis of existing conditions and regulations, visual renderings of development alternatives, site plans, and recommended action items for project implementation.
A website is being developed for La Marque’s Downtown Revitalization efforts. Citizens are encouraged to monitor the City’s News Flash and social media accounts for additional information.
